Week 1 - EDEX 962/963

Welcome to the Happy Camper 2015 blog. Hello my name is April Smith. I look forward to meeting my new students and teaching at the Summer Learning Place! I will teach reading, writing, and math to 3rd and 4th graders until July 30th. My classroom schedule is Monday - Thursday from 8:30 - 11:30. 

How do I feel about this course?  
I am excited to be available to work with students here in Greenville County to improve their knowledge for academic success. 

My 3 goals:  
1.  Help students master reading, writing, math, and behavior goals.
2.  Weekly communication with parents.
3.  Successfully complete my summer Practicum/Seminar.

Experience:

  • 8 years as a Special Education Teacher
  • Trained in Fundations & Wilson Language System

    I am sure you have a lot of knowledge to share with your students! They are lucky to have somebody who truly wants to work with them and impart knowledge to them. I also believe that your goals are important ones. Communication with parents is key to establishing good relationships and helping students achieve their own goals.

  3. Today we started Summer Learning. The students arrived not so eager to begin. We have completed our classroom contract and reviewed the classroom rules. I am so excited to see the academic progress.

  7. April, I love the picture of your students! You and Teresa have truly created a sense of community in the classroom. Thank you for always sharing your knowledge of Special Education and suggesting strategies to use in order to meet the needs of our students.

    I have really enjoyed week one with you! You have been such a kind mentor to me. I love watching you interact with the students, and I think you have a wonderful framework of experience in LD. You are definitely on the right track for meeting your initial goals. From Tuesday to Thursday, via lessons, assessments, and Classroom Dojo, I think we have already started making a difference. Here's to week two!
